Painting postcards that tell you which homeowners want an estimate.

Most painting postcards are a paint can, a coupon, and a phone number. Spur writes a card for each home that names its street, era, and the work it likely needs, prints it, mails it first-class, and alerts you the moment an owner scans the QR code.

Painting postcards all look alike, and nobody knows who read them.

Paint cans and coupons

"10% off interior painting" with a stock roller photo. Homeowners can't tell one painter from the next.

No proof of the work

Painting sells on what it looks like. A card with no real photos asks the homeowner to take your word for it.

No idea what worked

When a call comes in, you don't know which card, street, or offer drove it, so the next card is a guess.

AI draft for Sandra N. · 1427 Wild Rose Ln

A FINISHED JOB TWO STREETS FROM YOU ON ELM RIDGE.

Hi Sandra, we just finished repainting a 1990s colonial on Elm Ridge Court. It's the same era as your home, with the same lap siding and white trim.

Scan the code to see the before-and-after photos and the colors the owners chose. If your siding or trim is starting to fade or peel, we'll come out for a free estimate and color consult.

We're booking exterior jobs for May and June now.

What makes a painting postcard work

Painting is a visual trade, so the postcard has to prove what you do. A real before-and-after from a nearby home beats any stock photo. If the card can say "two streets from you" or "same era as your home," the homeowner can picture the result on their own house.

Pick one offer per card. A free estimate with a color consult works for most repaint work. A fixed-price package works for defined jobs like a front door, a deck stain, or a single room. Avoid stacking offers: a card with a discount, a referral bonus, and financing reads like an ad and gets tossed like one.

Match the card to the home. A 1990s colonial and a 2018 build need different messages. Older homes are more likely to need exterior work and trim repair, and homes built before 1978 should get lead-safe language. Newer homes are better candidates for interior color changes, cabinet painting, and accent walls.

Put the QR code to work. Link it to a short gallery of the nearby job and a booking form. When each household has its own code, a scan tells you who's interested and which version of the card they got. Call scanners the same day.

Size matters less than message. A 6×9 card stands out and fits a photo pair. A 4×6 costs less and works for follow-ups. Plan the second card before the first one mails, and stop mailing anyone who booked.

Measure the card, not just the campaign. With a separate QR code per household, you can compare headlines, photos, and offers street by street. After two or three mailings, you'll know whether your market responds better to "same era as your home" or to a nearby before-and-after, and whether a color consult outdraws a plain estimate. Keep the winner and test one new idea at a time.

8×return on a year of Spur Team from one $4,800 repaint

One exterior job pays for a year of postcards.

  • Spur Team: $49/mo billed annually = $588/yr
  • 1,000 postcards on Team at $0.94 each = $940
  • One $4,800 repaint = 8× your subscription, and about 3× software and postage combined

Painting postcard questions

What should a painting postcard say?

One headline about the homeowner's house or street, one offer, a real before-and-after photo, your insurance and certification, and a QR code with a clear action like "Scan for photos and a free estimate."

Do postcards work for painting contractors?

Yes, when they're targeted. Cards sent to owner-occupied homes of the right age near recent jobs get far more response than saturation mail to every door.

What size postcard is best for painters?

6×9 for a first touch, because it fits a before-and-after pair. 4×6 for follow-ups to the same list. Spur prints both.

How many painting postcards should I send?

Enough to reach each target home at least twice. A focused list of 500 to 1,000 well-matched homes usually beats 5,000 saturation cards.

Can I use my own photos and design?

Yes. Upload your design and photos or start from a Spur template, and AI fills in the per-home headline and body.
