Water treatment play · Past customers
Win back past water treatment customers with systems due for service.
A customer you installed a system for three years ago is likely overdue for filters, a check, or a salt plan. Spur takes your list, writes a personal 'it's been a while' card for each one, and mails it with a QR code to a booking page.

The problem
Customers drift away from systems that quietly need service.
Install and service dates sit in an old file and nobody reaches out.
A past customer whose softener fails will call whoever turns up, and it may not be you.
How it works
From list to mailbox in one workflow.

AI draft for Carl R. · 7 Pond View Ct
Hi Carl,
We installed your iron filter in 2022. Filters and valves work best with a yearly check, and it's been a while since yours had one.
As a returning customer, you can have a free inspection and a water test. We'll tell you honestly what the system needs, and what it doesn't.

How to win back lapsed water treatment customers
Past customers are the best leads a water dealer has. They already trust you enough to have bought a system, and they have equipment that needs attention. A card that names their system and the year you installed it is more relevant than any new-lead offer, and it costs only the postage.
Start with clean data. A spreadsheet with name, address, system type, install date, and last service date is all you need. If records are scattered, begin with the last five years of installs, and fill in service dates as customers respond.
Match the message to the system. A softener owner cares about salt and valve checks, an iron-filter owner about cartridges and backwash, and an RO owner about membranes and filters. Segmenting by system type makes the card feel personal rather than a mass mailing.
Use age as a trigger. Systems over ten years old are candidates for a replacement conversation, and systems under five years old are candidates for a service plan. A short mailing for each group, with a different offer, converts better than one message for everyone.
Offer a returning-customer check. A free or low-cost inspection and water test is a friendly way back in. It is also an honest one: if the system is fine, you've kept a loyal customer, and if it isn't, you have a reason to talk.
Close the loop with a plan. Every reactivated customer is a candidate for a service plan, so the next filter change or salt delivery doesn't require another campaign. Reactivation is a one-time effort, and a plan keeps the list from going cold again.
Ask for a review or a referral after every returning-customer visit. A customer who has just been told their system is working well, or has had a filter replaced, is happy to say so. A short, specific review gives new owners a reason to trust your next card, and costs you nothing.
A few returning customers pay for the year.
- Spur Team: $49/mo billed annually = $588/yr
- 300 past-customer cards at $0.94 each = $282
- 25 service visits (~$150) + 2 replacements (~$2,500) ≈ $8,750

FAQ
Water treatment past customer questions
How do I reactivate past water treatment customers?
Upload your customer list with system types and dates, and mail a personal card that names the system and offers a returning-customer check.
How old can a customer record be?
Records from five or more years ago can still work, but check addresses, because owners may have moved.
What if I don't have install dates?
Upload names and addresses anyway. The card can say 'it's been a while' without a specific date.
Should I discount the check?
A free inspection and water test works well, and the quote for any parts or replacement stays at your normal price.
What does Spur cost for a water treatment dealer?
Solo is free forever. You pay per postcard when you mail. Team is $49/mo billed annually with more searches, enrichments, and QR codes.
