Many companies pumped a tank and filed the ticket, so nobody knows who is overdue.
Septic play · Past customers
Win back past septic customers who are overdue for pumping.
A customer you pumped five years ago is the warmest lead you have, and probably overdue. Spur takes your list, writes a personal 'it's been a while' card for each one, and mails it with a QR code to a booking page.

The problem
Customers drift away when nobody reminds them.
After five years the name on the invoice is a blur, and the call goes to someone else.
Most companies market only to new owners and leave the existing list alone.
How it works
From list to mailbox in one workflow.
Five steps from a stale list to booked repeat pumpings.

AI draft for Hal T. · 10188 Lake Rd
Hi Hal,
We pumped your septic tank in 2020. It's been a while, and most household tanks need it every three to five years, so yours is due.
Because you've used us before, we'll honor your old price. We'll pump, check the baffles, and put you on a reminder so the next one doesn't slip by.

How to win back lapsed septic customers
Past customers are the cheapest jobs you will ever book. They already know your name, they have a tank you have seen, and they are likely overdue. A card that says 'we pumped your tank in 2020' is more relevant than any new-owner offer, and it costs a few dollars to send.
Start with your data. A spreadsheet of names, addresses, and last pumping dates is all you need. If records are on paper, begin with your best 100 customers and type them in. A clean list is the foundation of everything that follows.
Segment by time. Customers three to five years out are 'due' and need a gentle reminder. Customers five to seven years out are 'overdue' and need a stronger, helpful nudge. Anyone beyond seven years may have moved or switched, so a short check-in, with an offer to update records, is more appropriate.
Offer a returning-customer price. Honoring the old price, or a small credit, signals respect and removes a reason to shop around. Keep it simple and time-limited, and say so on the card.
Clean the list as you go. Cards that return as undeliverable show who has moved. New owners at those addresses belong in your new-homeowner program, and the old record should be closed.
Make it permanent. Every reactivated customer should join the reminder cycle, so the next pumping happens without a new campaign. Reactivation is a one-time push, and reminders are what prevent the list from going stale again.
Mark how each customer first reached you. If many came from a realtor, an inspector, or a neighbor, thank that source in a short note and keep them informed. Those referral partners often send repeat business, and knowing where your customers come from helps you decide which relationships deserve a visit each year. Review the list once a year, and thank your top referral sources with a short note, because loyalty from partners is what keeps a rural route full.
A few returning customers pay for the year.
- Spur Team: $49/mo billed annually = $588/yr
- 300 past-customer cards at $0.94 each = $282
- 20 repeat pumpings (~$450 each) ≈ $9,000

FAQ
Septic past customer questions
How do I reactivate past septic customers?
Upload your customer list with last service dates and mail a personal card that names the date and offers a returning-customer price.
How old can a customer record be?
Even records from seven or eight years ago can work, but check addresses first, because owners may have moved.
What if I don't have service dates?
Upload names and addresses anyway. The card can say 'it's been a while' without a specific date.
Should I discount?
A modest returning-customer price or credit helps, and a time limit keeps it from becoming permanent.
What does Spur cost for a septic company?
Solo is free forever. You pay per postcard when you mail. Team is $49/mo billed annually with more searches, enrichments, and QR codes.
