Win back past pest control customers before the bugs come back.

Every pest control company has a list of cancelled plans and one-time treatments. Many customers cancelled because the plan worked and they stopped seeing bugs. Spur uploads that list, writes each one a card that remembers their home and last treatment, and alerts you when they scan.

Customers cancel when the plan works. Then the pests come back and they call someone new.

Success looks like a reason to cancel

No bugs for six months and the plan feels optional. The homeowner cancels, and the next infestation goes to whoever ranks first in search.

The list sits unused

Hundreds of cancelled plans and one-time jobs in PestPac or FieldRoutes, with nobody assigned to follow up.

Texting old customers is risky

Marketing texts generally require prior written consent, and old customer records rarely have it. Mail doesn't need it.

From list to mailbox in one workflow.

Five steps to bring lapsed customers back onto a plan.

AI draft for Debra N. · 1207 Glenview Ct

IT'S BEEN A YEAR SINCE WE TREATED GLENVIEW CT.

Hi Debra, our technician treated spiders and ants at your home on Glenview Court last April. If you haven't seen many since, that's the treatment doing its job, but both come back as the weather warms.

We'd like to have you back on a quarterly plan. It covers ants, spiders, rodents, and wasps with four visits a year and free callbacks between them.

Restart this month and your first visit is $39. Scan the code to pick a date.

How to win back lapsed pest control customers

Plan churn is a fact of pest control, and it has an unusual cause: the service works. A homeowner who hasn't seen a spider in months starts to wonder what they're paying for and cancels. Others leave over a price increase, a scheduling problem, or a move. Most aren't unhappy with your work, which makes them the easiest customers to win back.

Clean the list first. Remove anyone who left over a dispute or nonpayment. Check ownership on every address; if the home has sold, the customer is gone and the new owner should get a new-homeowner card instead. Group the rest by what you treated and when, because that tells you when to mail.

Time the card to the returning pest. Pests are seasonal, so the best moment to reach a former ant customer is just before ant season, and a former rodent customer just before fall. A card that says "they usually come back about now" is accurate and timely, and it explains why the plan mattered.

Mail rather than text. Under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, marketing texts generally require prior express written consent, which old customer records rarely include. A postcard needs no consent, reaches the owner at home, and a household QR code tells you who's interested.

Make coming back easy. A low first-visit price, free callbacks, and clear cancellation terms remove the friction. If you raised prices, say so and explain what the plan includes. Then protect the reactivated plans with renewal recaps, so they don't cancel for the same reason again.

Treat one-time customers as a separate group from cancelled plans. A homeowner who paid for a single wasp or ant treatment has never been on a plan, so lead with what a plan would have prevented. A cancelled plan customer already knows the plan; remind them what it did, mention any change in price or schedule, and make restarting a one-step decision.

20×return on a year of Spur Team from 25 reactivated plans at $480/yr

Old customers, back on a plan.

  • Spur Team: $588/yr, plus 500 past customers × 2 cards = 1,000 postcards at $0.94 = $940
  • 25 reactivated quarterly plans × $480/yr = $12,000
  • About 8× the software and postage combined, with no new customer acquisition cost

Past customer reactivation questions

How do I win back cancelled pest control customers?

Upload your cancelled plans and one-time customers, remove disputes and anyone who moved, and mail each a card naming their last treatment and why that pest is likely to return. Offer a low first visit to restart.

When should I contact past pest control customers?

Just before the season their original pest returns: spring for ants and spiders, early fall for rodents. Send a second card two to three weeks later.

Can I text my old pest control customers?

Marketing texts generally require prior express written consent under the TCPA, which many old records don't have. Postcards don't require consent.

Why do customers cancel pest control plans?

Often because the plan worked and they stopped seeing pests. Price increases, scheduling issues, and moves are the other common reasons.

What if a past pest control customer has moved?

Spur checks ownership on each address. If the home sold, you can send the new owner a welcome card instead.
