The problem
Pool demand arrives all at once, and so does everyone's marketing.
Late-summer closings and winterizing get booked by whoever reminds the owner first, and freeze damage from a late closing is expensive.
Off-season months could be filled with equipment upgrades and resurfacing, but nobody mails owners about them.
How it works
From list to mailbox in one workflow.
Five steps from a scramble every spring to a calendar that books itself.

Hi Steve,
We opened your pool last May, and it's about six weeks until the cover comes off again. Opening dates before Memorial Day fill up fast every year, so we're reaching out to past customers first.
A standard opening includes removing, cleaning, and folding the cover, reinstalling ladders and rails, starting and checking the pump, filter, and heater, and shocking and balancing the water. If anything was damaged over winter, you'll know on day one.
Book by April 10 to hold your preferred week. Scan the code to see open dates.

How to plan a pool service marketing calendar
Pool service is one of the most seasonal trades there is. In northern and midwestern markets, nearly every pool opens in a few weeks of spring and closes in a few weeks of fall. In the Sun Belt, pools run all year, but demand still peaks as temperatures climb in spring. Either way, the companies that book the season early are the ones that mail early.
Start with openings. Owners in seasonal markets want their pool ready by Memorial Day weekend, and they start thinking about it as soon as the weather turns. Mailing in early March, four to six weeks before the rush, puts your card in hand before most competitors. Mail past opening customers first, then the rest of your pool-only list.
Closings are the second campaign. A pool closed too late risks freeze damage to plumbing and equipment, and a pool closed too early can turn green under the cover. Mail in early August with a clear message about timing and what winterizing includes: lowering the water, blowing out lines, adding antifreeze where needed, and securing the cover. Customers who booked an opening should get the closing card automatically.
The off-season is the third. Winter months are when owners are most open to planned projects: equipment upgrades, heaters, automation, liner replacement, and resurfacing. Techs have time, and owners aren't using the pool. An equipment card in January or February turns idle weeks into high-ticket work.
Safety covers deserve a mention. Mesh and solid safety covers that meet ASTM F1346 are designed to hold weight and keep children and pets out of a closed pool. An honest note about cover condition at closing is helpful, not a scare tactic, and it sells covers to owners who need them.
Set the calendar once. Spur keeps your pool list current as homes sell and builds change, writes each season's card, and mails on the dates you choose, every year. The hard part of seasonal marketing is remembering to do it early, and automation removes that.
One season of openings and closings covers Spur many times over.
- Spur Team: $49/mo billed annually = $588/yr
- 600 cards on Team at $0.94 each = $564 across three campaigns
- 20 openings and 20 closings at ~$175 each ≈ $7,000, before weekly service sign-ups

FAQ
Seasonal pool marketing questions
When should pool companies send opening postcards?
Four to six weeks before the opening rush, usually early March in northern markets. Mail past opening customers first, then the rest of your pool-only list.
When should I mail pool closing offers?
Early August, so owners can book a date before the first frost risk. Explain what winterizing includes and why timing matters.
What can pool companies sell in the off-season?
Planned projects: variable-speed pumps, heaters, automation, liners, resurfacing, and safety covers. Owners are open to them and techs have time.
Can Spur mail the same seasonal campaigns every year?
Yes. Set the dates once and Spur refreshes the list, writes the card, and mails each campaign automatically every year.
