Owners pause for winter and intend to restart in spring. Without a reminder, many never do, or they call someone else.
Pool service play · Past customers
Win back the pool customers who paused, moved on, or went DIY.
Your software is full of pool owners who cancelled for the winter, tried doing it themselves, or switched to a cheaper company. You already know their pool and their equipment. Spur turns that list into a card timed to the season, written around what you know, and alerts you when they scan.

The problem
Cancelled pool customers are the warmest list you're not mailing.
Owners who cancelled to save money often find out how much work it is by mid-summer. Nobody is there to catch them.
Customers who left for a cheaper company may be dealing with missed visits and cloudy water, but you won't hear about it unless you ask.

AI draft for Patrick O. · 7420 Peachtree Hills Dr
Hi Patrick,
We serviced your pool on Peachtree Hills Drive until last October. When we last saw it, your pump was about nine years old, which is close to the age when many pumps start to need work.
If you'd like to restart weekly service this season, we'll do a full pump and filter check on the first visit and give you a written report. Your first month back is 25% off.
If you've found another company you're happy with, no problem. If not, scan the code to pick a start date.

How to win back past pool service customers
Every pool company loses customers. Some pause for the winter and mean to come back. Some cancel to save money and try doing it themselves. Some leave for a cheaper competitor. A few move. Most of these owners still have a pool, still live in the home, and already know your company. That makes them one of the least expensive groups to win back.
Start by sorting the list by reason. Seasonal pauses are the easiest: a reminder card four to six weeks before your spring rush, with a simple restart offer, brings many of them back. DIY cancellations are best reached in early summer, when heat and heavy use make the work pile up and the water gets harder to keep clear. Price switchers need a different message about reliability and consistency, not just a lower price.
Remove anyone who sold the home. Spur checks recorded sales, so a past customer whose house changed hands drops off the win-back list. The new owner at that address is a different prospect and belongs on your new-owner list with a welcome card.
Use what you know. Your records show the pool size, the equipment, the last repair, and when the pump or heater was installed. A card that says "your pump was nine years old when we last saw it" is specific, honest, and useful. It's also something no competitor can write.
Keep the offer simple and the tone gracious. A first month at a discount, a free equipment check on the first visit, or waived start-up fees all work. Acknowledge that they may have found someone else, and make it easy to come back without a conversation.
Finally, measure returning accounts by reason for leaving. Over a season or two, you'll learn which groups come back and which don't, and you can stop mailing the ones that never respond.
Returning customers cost less to win than new ones.
- Spur Team: $588/yr, plus 300 cards on Team at $0.94 each = $282
- 8 returning accounts × $165/mo × 12 = $15,840 a year
- Year one total cost: $870

Past Customers by the numbers
Why past customers are worth a card
federal pump efficiency standards took effect, so many past customers face a variable-speed upgrade at their next failure
the pH range the CDC recommends, harder to hold in peak summer heat and use
in yearly revenue from 8 returning weekly accounts
FAQ
Pool customer win-back questions
How do I win back pool service customers?
Sort past customers by why they left, remove homes that sold, and mail a card timed to the season with a simple come-back offer that mentions their pool or equipment.
When should I contact seasonal pool customers?
Four to six weeks before your spring rush, so they can restart before booking fills up.
What about customers who went DIY?
Reach them in early summer, when heat and heavy use make pool care hardest. A free first-visit check is a good offer.
Can I upload my cancelled accounts from Skimmer or Pool Brain?
Yes. Export cancelled, paused, and one-time customers as a CSV and upload them. Spur removes current customers and homes that have sold.
