Electrical past customer reactivation: bring back the homes you've already wired.

Your customer list is full of homes you've worked in and owners who trusted you once. Most haven't heard from you since the invoice. Spur turns that list into campaigns that name the job you did, suggest the logical next upgrade, and alert you when someone scans.

Customers forget who did the work

A homeowner who had a panel swapped three years ago may not remember your company name. When they need an EV charger, they search and find someone else.

No reason to reach out

Electrical work doesn't come with a tune-up schedule, so there's no natural moment to get back in touch. Months turn into years.

Generic blasts don't work

An email newsletter to everyone on the list gets ignored. A card that names their home and their job gets read.

AI draft for Wendy C. · 2875 Olentangy Ridge Pl

WE UPGRADED YOUR PANEL IN 2022. IT'S READY FOR AN EV.

Hi Wendy, it's been a while since we replaced your panel on Olentangy Ridge with a 200-amp service. When we did, we sized it with room for a Level 2 charger, which usually needs its own 40- or 50-amp circuit.

If an electric vehicle is in your plans, adding a charger to your garage is now a one-day job with a permit and inspection included. We can also add whole-home surge protection while we're there, which protects the charger and the rest of your electronics.

How electricians win back past customers

Reactivating past customers is usually the cheapest marketing an electrician can do. These homeowners already let you into their house, paid your invoice, and, if the work was good, trust you. The problem is that electrical work has no built-in reason to stay in touch. There's no annual tune-up or filter change, so a customer from three years ago may not remember your name when they need you again.

The fix is to give them a reason that's about their own home. Your job history is the best source. A customer who had a panel or service upgrade is a natural EV charger prospect, because a Level 2 charger typically needs its own 40- to 50-amp circuit, and you already know whether their panel has room. A customer who had service work may not have whole-home surge protection. A customer who had a small repair in an older home is a good fit for a full safety check, because you only looked at one circuit last time.

Name the job and the date on the card. "We upgraded your panel in 2022" reminds the homeowner who you are and why your suggestion makes sense. Then offer one next step with a past-customer incentive, like a discount or priority scheduling.

Timing matters. Customers drift after about 18 months without contact, so that's a good point to start. Send a second card about six weeks later to anyone who didn't scan, and stop mailing anyone who books. Check that the customer still owns the home before you mail, since a new owner is a different campaign.

Electrification makes this play more valuable every year. EVs, heat pumps, induction ranges, battery backup, and generators all need electrical work, and many of your past customers will add at least one. If you're the electrician who wrote to them about it first, you're the one they call.

Finally, use reactivation to offer a maintenance plan. A past customer who books a safety check is the easiest person to sign up for a yearly visit, which keeps them from drifting again.

Your old customers are the cheapest new jobs you'll book.

  • Spur Team: $49/mo billed annually = $588/yr
  • 800 past customers × 2 cards = 1,600 postcards at $0.94 = $1,504
  • Six $1,500 EV charger installs, six $450 surge installs, and one $3,800 panel = $15,500, about 7× the mail and software combined

Electrical customer reactivation questions

How do electricians get repeat customers?

Stay in touch with a reason. Mail past customers a card that names the job you did and suggests the next logical upgrade, such as an EV charger after a panel upgrade or surge protection after service work.

When should I contact past electrical customers?

Around 18 months after the last job is a good starting point. That's when customers start to forget who did the work. Send a second card six weeks later to anyone who didn't respond.

What should I offer past electrical customers?

One upgrade that fits their home and past job, plus a past-customer incentive like a discount or priority scheduling. EV chargers, surge protection, safety checks, and generator inlets all work well.

Can I upload my customer list from ServiceTitan or Jobber?

Yes. Export a CSV with names, addresses, job types, and dates from ServiceTitan, Housecall Pro, Jobber, or a spreadsheet, and Spur matches each address to its property details.

What if a past customer has sold their home?

Spur checks current ownership before mailing. If the home sold, the new owner is a new homeowner prospect, not a past customer, and should get a different card.
