Siding postcards that know how long the siding's been up.

Most siding mailers are a stock photo of a perfect house and a phone number, sent to every address in the zip. Spur writes a card for each home that names its build year and what that era's siding is likely doing now, links a QR code to a nearby project, prints it, mails it first-class, and tells you who scanned.

Siding mailers look the same, and owners don't think their siding is that bad.

Faded siding is easy to ignore

Owners see their house every day. Chalky, wavy, or cracked siding becomes invisible until a neighbor's new siding makes it obvious.

Stock photos don't persuade

A picture of a perfect house from a catalog says nothing about what the owner's street could look like.

No idea who looked

Siding is a five-figure decision that takes months. A phone number won't tell you who's quietly interested.

AI draft for Megan S. · 2709 NW Prairie Ridge Dr

Hi Megan,

Homes on Prairie Ridge Drive went up around 1999, and much of the original vinyl on the street is showing its age: chalky fading on the south and west walls, panels that crack in hail, and seams that rattle in the wind.

We just finished re-siding a home three streets over in a lower-maintenance product with new trim and soffits. Scan the code on this card to see the before and after.

If you'd like to know what yours would take, we offer a free exterior assessment. We'll walk the house with you, show you what needs attention now and what can wait, and leave a written price.

How to write and target siding postcards

Siding is a high-ticket, low-urgency purchase. Unless a storm has torn panels off the house, owners rarely feel they have to act this year, and they've stopped seeing the fading and warping that's obvious to everyone else. A siding postcard's job is to make the owner look at their house again, and to put a real example of something better in front of them.

Build year tells you what's on the wall. Homes built from the mid-1980s through the mid-2000s were often sided in builder-grade vinyl, which commonly fades, becomes brittle, and cracks well before the 20-to-40-year lifespans quoted for better products, especially on sun-facing walls and in hail country. Many homes from the 1980s and 1990s have hardboard siding, which can swell and rot where paint fails. Older homes may have wood, aluminum, or cement-based shingles. Add owner occupancy and 10 or more years of ownership to find homes most likely to have original cladding.

Write to the era. "The vinyl on Prairie Ridge is 26 years old" tells the owner you know their street. A sentence about what that siding usually does by now, such as fading on the south wall or cracking in hail, gives them something to go check. Spur's AI writes those details into each card from the parcel record.

Replace the stock photo with a real one. Siding is one of the most visible changes a house can get. A QR code that opens a before-and-after from a few streets away shows the owner exactly what's possible on a house like theirs, which no catalog image can do. Crop out house numbers and never name the customer.

Keep the offer simple. A free exterior assessment with a written price is the right first step for a five-figure project. Be careful with older homes: some pre-1980s siding contains asbestos, and homes built before 1978 may have lead paint on trim, so know the rules before you promise a price.

Mail more than once. Siding decisions often take a season or two. Re-mail non-responders in spring and late summer, when owners spend the most time outside looking at their house.

Siding postcard questions

What should a siding postcard say?

Name the street and the home's build year, describe what that siding usually looks like by now, and link a QR code to a nearby before-and-after. Offer a free exterior assessment.

Who should I send siding postcards to?

Owner-occupied homes built roughly 1985–2005 and owned 10+ years for aging vinyl and hardboard, and older homes with wood, aluminum, or shingle siding.

Should I use stock photos on siding mailers?

No. A before-and-after from a nearby job is far more persuasive, because it shows a house like the owner's. Crop out the house number.

How often should siding contractors mail?

Each spring and late summer to the same list. Siding is a slow decision, and repeated, specific cards keep you first in line.
