Garage door direct mail that keeps your trucks busy between emergencies.

Emergency calls come and go, and when they slow down, so do your techs. A direct mail program fills the gaps: four standing lists, each mailed on its own schedule, each measured by cost per job. Spur builds the lists from property data, writes the cards, mails them, and shows you which list books the most work.

Most garage door companies live on emergency calls and paid search.

Demand is lumpy

Spring failures cluster in cold snaps. Between them, techs wait for calls, and paid search costs climb when everyone bids at once.

High-ticket work isn't pitched

Openers and new doors are the most profitable jobs, but most owners only call when something breaks, and then they want the cheapest fix.

No idea what mail produced

One generic mailer to a whole zip can't tell you whether springs, openers, or doors paid off.

AI draft for Wes C. · 9814 Mill Creek Ct

Hi Wes,

Homes on Mill Creek Court were built around 2009, so most of the garage door openers on your street are original and well into their second decade.

Today's belt-drive openers are much quieter, can be opened and checked from your phone, and many include battery backup so the door still works in a power outage. We'll install one, set up the app and remotes, and test the auto-reverse and sensors, for $595 this month.

How to build a garage door direct mail program

A direct mail program is a set of standing lists, each with its own message and schedule, that keep running month after month. For a garage door company, that's the difference between waiting for emergencies and booking planned work every week. Emergencies still come in, but the program fills the gaps between them with higher-margin jobs.

Most companies need four lists. Springs and tune-ups: owner-occupied homes with attached garages built roughly 7 to 15 years ago. Openers: homes 10 or more years old, where original openers are often loud, slow, and missing modern features. Door replacement: homes 20 or more years old, where original doors are dented, faded, or uninsulated. New owners: homes that sold in the last 60 days, who need new codes, new remotes, and a safety check.

Each list gets its own card. A spring check is a $79–$129 offer about safety and reliability. An opener upgrade is about quiet, phone control, and battery backup. A new door is about curb appeal and value, and works best with a photo of a nearby job. A new-owner card is a welcome and a code reset. One flyer can't carry all four messages.

Set a rhythm. New-owner and spring lists work best monthly. Door replacement does well in spring and early fall, when owners are looking at the outside of the house. Add a spring-check push before winter, when cold weather makes worn springs more likely to fail. Spur refreshes each list automatically and mails only new matches.

Measure by cost per booked job, not response rate. A door-replacement list might get fewer scans than a spring list but produce much larger tickets. Because every card has its own QR code, you can see scans and jobs by list and shift budget accordingly.

Over time, the program also changes how your company is found. Homeowners who've seen your card a few times call you directly when the spring snaps, instead of searching and calling the top ad. That's the cheapest emergency call you'll ever get.

$21Kin revenue from a year of planned jobs across four lists

A year of mail costs less than two new doors.

  • Spur Team: $588/yr, plus 2,000 cards on Team at $0.94 each = $1,880
  • 12 spring jobs (~$4,200) + 10 openers (~$5,900) + 3 doors (~$10,500) ≈ $20,600
  • Year one total cost: $2,468

Garage door direct mail questions

How should a garage door company use direct mail?

Run four standing lists: springs for homes 7–15 years old, openers for 10+, doors for 20+, and new owners. Give each its own card and mail monthly.

How much should I spend on garage door direct mail?

Work back from cost per booked job. A spring job is worth a few hundred dollars and a new door several thousand, so track by list and fund the lists that produce.

Does direct mail work for garage door emergencies?

Indirectly. Owners who've seen your card a few times often call you directly when a spring breaks instead of searching and calling the top ad.

Can Spur exclude my recent customers?

Yes. Upload a customer CSV from ServiceTitan, Housecall Pro, Jobber, or a spreadsheet, and Spur removes those addresses before mailing.

When is the best time to mail garage door offers?

Spring checks before winter, door replacement in spring and early fall, and new-owner and opener cards monthly.
